Providing a Safe Educational Environment

The School Resource Officer (SRO) provides a safe educational environment for students, parents, and staff. The SRO's responsibilities include:

  • Building relationships
  • Creating partnerships
  • Ensuring school safety
  • Mentoring
  • Teaching

The SRO partners with school officials in an effort to improve:

  • Attendance
  • Student grades

Through early intervention activities in the schools, the SRO will work to help reduce these.

  • Crime
  • Juvenile Delinquency
  • Truancy

Law Enforcement Services

The SRO's primary role is to provide law enforcement-type services to a school to encourage everyone to follow all of the school regulations. The SRO investigates allegations of criminal incidents and makes referrals of students to juvenile authorities. The SRO establishes close contact with students to build positive relationships with them.

SRO's also conduct security inspections, monitor crime statistics and work with local police and students to design crime prevention strategies. They work closely with school administrators to train school personnel in handling crisis situations. The SRO is a liaison between the police department, the school district, and the community.

Current Assignments

We currently have two SRO's assigned to schools. One is assigned to Sanger High School and the other is assigned to Washington Academic Middle School (WAMS). They share response to all other schools within the City.
